A little speech about Youth Pledge Day

Good morning ladies and gentlemen

In this opportunity, I would like to deliver my speech about “Youth Pledge Day”

This day, exactly on October 28 is the Youth Pledge Day, or in Bahasa we known as Hari Sumpah Pemuda. On October 28, 1928 or eighty seven years ago, young Indonesian nationalists proclaimed a historic youth pledge to pledge that they would be united under one motherland called Indonesia, one nation called Indonesia and one language — Bahasa Indonesia.

For the complete In English, the pledge reads:
1.      Firstly        We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one motherland, Indonesia.
2.      Secondly We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one nation, the nation of Indonesia.
3.      Thirdly We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, respect the language of unity, Indonesia.

In Indonesia, with the original spelling, the pledge reads:
1.      PertamaKami poetra dan poetri Indonesia, mengakoe bertoempah darah jang satoe, tanah air Indonesia.
2.      KedoeaKami poetra dan poetri Indonesia, mengakoe berbangsa jang satoe, bangsa Indonesia.
3.      KetigaKami poetra dan poetri Indonesia, mendjoendjoeng bahasa persatoean, bahasa Indonesia.

Since then, we have commemorated Youth Pledge on Oct 28 every year, because this was the first time in our political history that representatives of the Indonesian youth from different ethnic and religious backgrounds had made a public declaration on the unity of our nation.

Ladies and Gentlemen
We as an Indonesian should celebrate the historic Youth Pledge Day. Why? Because, it shows that as a great nation, the Indonesian always appreciates and respects the service and sacrifice of the fighters in achieving and upholding the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
And then, what can we do for our nation?
Indonesia is the nation with wide area and has different faith and ethnics. With those different, we are as young generation should active and creative to get more achievements, so it will make our country proud of it. One way to make it comes true, we should avoid bad influence that will destroy the moral of teenagers. Because it will effect the result of achievement.
As teenagers we should have spirit of Youth Pledge and support the content of Youth Pledge itself.
To make it comes true we could do from the small things, for example the first one, you are active for community and service which are help a community who need our help to make their life better, the second one, wearing Indonesian traditional dress in particular occasion like Batik. If we as an Indonesian aren’t proud to wear Batik or others Indonesian traditional dresses then who wants to proud of it? and the third one, is the most important one is always speak bahasa Indonesia in appropriate words (bahasa Indonesia yang baik dan benar) based on EYD (ejaan yang disempurnakan).

Well, Ladies and Gentlemen
By doing those things, we can save our nation, and our culture which means it will not be occupied by other country and it will not disappear.
I think that's all I can share with you, hope it will useful for us. Thanks for your attention and
Happy Youth Pledge Day Everyone!
